Most stadiums are NFL-scale venues adapted for soccer, fitting 60,000 to 82,000 spectators.

Pre-Trip Checklist

Visa & Entry
A $21 ESTA is required for Visa Waiver Program citizens, applied online at least 72 hours before departure. Citizens outside the Visa Waiver Program need a B1/B2 visa — expect processing to span weeks. Apply early — tournament-period demand will be very high.
Most travelers can enter visa-free for up to 180 days. A tourist permit (FMM) is issued on arrival, or you can apply online ahead of travel. Attending matches in both Mexico and the US? You'll need separate entry permits for each.
An eTA is required for visa-exempt passports ($7 CAD, online application). Travelers whose passports require a full visa should file early. Processing is normally quick, though it can stretch during big events. eTAs are passport-linked and valid for a 5-year window.
Currency & Costs
The currency is the US Dollar (USD). Card payments are accepted nearly everywhere. Tipping is the norm: 18-20% in restaurants, $1-2 per drink in bars. A casual-restaurant meal costs $15-25; fast food costs $8-15. Stadium food and drink pricing runs well above street prices.
The currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN). US dollars are commonly accepted near tourist sites, though peso payments get better rates. Tipping at 10-15% is standard. A typical meal at local restaurants is $5-10 — Mexico is the most budget-friendly host. ATMs are widely available.
CAD is the currency. Card payments — contactless included — are accepted everywhere. Restaurants expect a 15-20% tip. Meal pricing tracks the US, around $15-25 per plate. Be aware that Canadian shelf prices are pre-tax, meaning your bill ends up 13-15% over the menu number.
Weather (June-July)
Climate varies sharply between host cities. The south is hot and humid: Miami 32°C, Houston 35°C, Dallas 36°C. Out West (LA 25°C, San Francisco 18°C, Seattle 22°C) conditions are mild and dry. In the east (New York 29°C, Philadelphia 30°C, Boston 27°C), conditions are warm and humid. Sunscreen, a hat, and steady hydration are key for outdoor stadiums.
Rainy weather sets in from June. At 2,200m elevation, Mexico City stays moderate by day (25°C) but cools off significantly after sunset. Plan for layers and a rain jacket. Guadalajara and Monterrey are warmer and more humid (30-33°C). Afternoon thunderstorms are a regular occurrence, usually brief.
Some of the best weather Canada offers. Toronto sits around 26°C, with bouts of humidity. Vancouver averages 22°C, sees up to 16-hour days, and gets little rainfall. Both Toronto and Vancouver suit outdoor events well. Light layers are recommended for evening kickoffs.
Practical Info
Power: Type A/B plugs, 120V. English is the dominant language. Both Uber and Lyft work in all host cities. Free WiFi is broadly available at hotels, cafes, and airports. For mobile data, buy an eSIM or prepaid SIM at the airport. Public transport runs the gamut — strong in New York, weak in Dallas and Houston.
Power: Type A/B plugs at 127V (US-compatible). Spanish is the primary language though English is widely understood in tourist areas and near stadiums. Uber and DiDi run smoothly in all three host cities. Pick up a local SIM (Telcel or AT&T Mexico) at the airport for cheap data and calls.
A/B plugs, 120V — same as US. Toronto: English. Vancouver: English/French. Both cities have Uber service. Reliable transit: Toronto's TTC and Vancouver's SkyTrain both connect to their respective stadiums. Canadian mobile plans run pricey, so an eSIM or prepaid option suits visitors.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I book my Changi-to-USA flight for the World Cup?

Target December 2025 through February 2026. Singapore Airlines prices its ultra-long-haul economy in several buckets, and the two cheapest ones on SIN-EWR, SIN-JFK and SIN-LAX sell out fastest. By March, you are typically looking at the third or fourth fare class, which can be SGD 400 to 600 more expensive per direction. For knockout-round dates (late June through 19 July), book by February. United's SIN-SFO flight tends to hold cheaper economy a little longer but swings with dynamic pricing.

Is the SIN-EWR 18-hour flight worth it versus a one-stop?

For time-sensitive fans, absolutely — door to door, SQ21/22 saves 6 to 10 hours versus a one-stop via NRT, ICN, HKG or FRA. The downside is fuel surcharges and yield-managed pricing: when cheap economy is available, it is outstanding value; when it sells out, a one-stop via Tokyo or Seoul on ANA, JAL or Korean Air can be meaningfully cheaper. Premium Economy on the A350-900ULR is a genuinely good product for a long flight, and the cabin is only 94 seats — it fills quickly, so book early or upgrade at check-in on operational release.

Do Singapore passport holders need an ESTA?

Yes. Singapore is part of the US Visa Waiver Program, so an ESTA covers your US entry for stays under 90 days. Apply at esta.cbp.dhs.gov for USD 21, valid 2 years, and submit at least 72 hours before boarding. For Canada you need an eTA (CAD 7, apply at canada.ca, valid 5 years). Mexico is visa-free for Singapore passport holders for stays up to 180 days — your FMM tourist permit is issued on arrival. Keep all three authorisations handy in your wallet-card app before boarding.

What's the cheapest onward route after landing at a US gateway?

If you arrive at EWR, you're 20 minutes from MetLife Stadium by rental car — no second flight needed for the New York venue. From JFK, Amtrak Acela to Boston or Philadelphia often beats LaGuardia connections on time and cost. From LAX, JetBlue Mint to JFK/BOS or Southwest low-cost to DFW, LAS, DEN is usually under SGD 250. From SFO, United covers the West Coast hubs at competitive prices. Book US domestic legs separately on Southwest, JetBlue or Frontier to save roughly 30% versus an all-SQ through-ticket for multi-city trips.

Can I use a stopover in SIN on the way home as a rest day?

Yes, and SQ actively markets it. The 'Singapore Stopover Holiday' programme bundles a hotel night and attraction pass with any eligible SQ international ticket — worth considering for fans who've just flown 18 hours from Newark. For Asia-Pacific connections, SIN is your hub regardless: Changi has onward service to Bali, Bangkok, Phuket, Tokyo, Seoul and most ASEAN cities. Many fans add a 2-night layover on the way back to decompress before resuming work.

How does SGD purchasing power affect the trip?

The Singapore dollar holds up well against USD, MXN and CAD — historically one of the stronger ASEAN currencies. Stadium food, match-day transport and hotel rates in the US still feel expensive compared with Singapore, but not dramatically so. Use a multi-currency card (YouTrip, Revolut, Wise) to hold USD and MXN at a favourable rate ahead of the trip; Singapore banks' credit-card foreign transaction fees (2.5% to 3.25%) add up fast across a 2-week World Cup itinerary. ATMs are widely available in all host cities.
