Travel essentials

Buying windows that work for Singapore travelers
Singapore Airlines drops the cheapest SIN-LHR, SIN-CDG and SIN-FRA seats 90 to 150 days before Glastonbury, Tomorrowland or a Champions League final — book around the 100-day mark.
Scoot, Jetstar Asia and AirAsia refresh SIN-ICN, SIN-NRT and SIN-HND specials at midnight SGT on Tuesday for K-pop concerts at Gocheok Sky Dome, Tokyo Dome shows and J-League weekends.
Trigger a price alert on SIN-LAX and SIN-JFK the day Coachella, the Super Bowl or NBA Finals goes on sale — Singapore Airlines and ANA promo buckets vanish in hours.
Smarter routings out of Changi
For the 2026 World Cup across the US, Mexico and Canada, ANA via Tokyo (NRT) or Korean Air via Seoul (ICN) often shaves 200 to 600 SGD off SIN-Dallas or SIN-Los Angeles versus the SQ direct.
Cebu Pacific, Batik Air and AirAsia from SIN to Manila (MNL) and Bali (DPS) open Pacific connections to Honolulu, Sydney and Auckland for Bluesfest and Splendour in the Grass at noticeably lower SGD fares.
Emirates and Qatar Airways from SIN via DXB or DOH frequently undercut Lufthansa Group when ticketing to European F1 weekends (Silverstone, Monza, Spa) — best paid for during quarterly fare drops.
Singapore passport entry rules
The Singapore passport is among the world's strongest — visa-free or visa-on-arrival to almost every country, including all of Schengen, the UK, Japan, South Korea, the US (ESTA), the UAE, Brazil, Mexico, Australia and South Africa.
The US ESTA (USD$21) is approved in minutes online — file the same day you ticket Coachella, NBA Finals, Super Bowl or 2026 World Cup flights.
Canada eTA (CAD$7), Australia ETA, New Zealand NZeTA, UK ETA — all online and minutes-fast, but slots tighten near events like Splendour in the Grass and Australian Open.
Hopping between host cities once you arrive
For the 2026 World Cup, book US-Mexico-Canada internal segments the same day as the international ticket — Southwest, JetBlue, Aeroméxico, Volaris and WestJet cover the trickiest routes.
Across Europe, ICE, Frecciarossa, TGV and Renfe AVE beat short-haul flights below roughly 700 km between festival cities such as Berlin–Munich, Milan–Rome or Paris–Lyon.
Across Asia, Scoot, AirAsia, Jetstar, Cebu Pacific and VietJet run the cheapest intra-region hops from SIN to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Bali, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong and Taipei for festival circuits.

Event travel questions

The things people ask most before booking flights for a major event.

When is the right time to book event flights from Singapore?

From Changi (SIN) the sweet spot for SGD fares opens 14 to 22 weeks before the event. Singapore Airlines drops promotions on Tuesday morning SGT, while Scoot, Jetstar Asia, AirAsia and Cebu Pacific refresh on Wednesday. For ASEAN destinations (Bangkok, Bali, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City) and short-hop Asian events (Tokyo Dome shows, Gocheok Sky Dome K-pop, Hong Kong Stadium gigs), 6 to 10 weeks ahead is enough thanks to high frequency. For European mega-festivals (Tomorrowland, Sziget, Glastonbury, Primavera Sound) and US ones (Coachella, Rolling Loud, Lollapalooza Chicago) the golden window is 100 to 130 days, just before the typical 4-to-6-week jump. For the 2026 World Cup across the US, Mexico and Canada, the cheapest SGD buckets surface in waves — set an alert as soon as your match ticket clears, and ticket the moment fare class Q reopens. Shifting departure to Tuesday or Wednesday usually trims 100 to 250 SGD.

Singapore is a single airport — does that limit my cheap-flight options?

Changi (SIN) is one airport but it carries one of the world's deepest long-haul networks. SIN sees daily competition between Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Jetstar Asia, AirAsia, Cathay Pacific, Cebu Pacific, Batik Air, Emirates, Qatar Airways, ANA, JAL, Korean Air, Asiana, Lufthansa, BA, Air France-KLM, Turkish Airlines, KLM, Qantas, Vietnam Airlines and many others. That density means SIN frequently beats Bangkok (BKK) or Kuala Lumpur (KUL) on price for long-haul events even though the latter two are hub airports themselves. The only real workaround for cheaper fares is to position yourself in Kuala Lumpur (KUL) by bus or low-cost flight if the event is best served by AirAsia X — KUL-Australia or KUL-Japan can sometimes undercut SIN. For nearly every other event, SIN is the obvious origin.

Should I always fly direct or are connections worth a look?

It depends. Singapore Airlines runs world-leading non-stops from SIN to most major event cities (London, Paris, Frankfurt, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tokyo, Sydney). Direct is often the right play because saved time has real value. But for long-haul events, connecting via Tokyo (ANA, JAL), Seoul (Korean Air, Asiana), Hong Kong (Cathay) or the Gulf (Emirates, Qatar) frequently saves 200 to 600 SGD over the SQ non-stop, especially during quarterly fare drops. For European F1 weekends, transiting via Doha (Qatar) or Dubai (Emirates) often beats the SQ direct. Always price the connecting options before clicking buy.

How do I plan a multi-city event trip once I leave Singapore?

The smart play is a single multi-city ticket within one alliance (Star, oneworld or SkyTeam) — usually cheaper than stacking one-ways and far better protected if a leg slips. For the 2026 World Cup across the United States, Mexico and Canada, American, Delta, United, Aeroméxico, Volaris and Air Canada cover every host city; book the internal legs the same day as your international ticket because they sell out fast. Across Europe, Ryanair, Wizz Air, easyJet and Vueling run the cheapest hops between festival cities. For sub-700 km journeys in Germany, Italy or France, ICE, Frecciarossa and TGV beat flying once airport transfer time is included. Across Asia, Scoot, AirAsia, Jetstar, Cebu Pacific and VietJet link every major hub at very low SGD fares.

What visas does a Singapore passport holder need for events abroad?

The Singapore passport tops most global rankings. The Schengen Area, the UK, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, the US (ESTA), the UAE, Brazil, Mexico, Australia (ETA), New Zealand (NZeTA), Argentina, Chile, Peru, South Africa and most of the Caribbean admit Singaporeans visa-free or via easy electronic authorisation. The US ESTA (USD$21) is approved in minutes — file the moment your event ticket clears for Coachella, the Super Bowl or 2026 World Cup. Canada uses an eTA (CAD$7), Australia ETA, New Zealand NZeTA — all minutes-fast online. The UK now requires an ETA filed several weeks ahead. China grants 30-day visa-free entry to Singaporeans. For events in less common destinations (Russia, India), check the specific embassy page within a month of travel.

What can I do if my SGD fare drops after I book?

Singapore Airlines, ANA, Cathay Pacific, Emirates and Qatar Airways publish Flex tariffs that allow date changes without penalty (or with a small fee) provided the new flight has the same fare class — read the rules before paying so you know which bucket you bought. Low-cost carriers (Scoot, Jetstar Asia, AirAsia, Cebu Pacific) charge for changes but sometimes refund vouchers when you bought their Flex add-on. International majors (American, Delta, United, Lufthansa, KLM) have removed nearly all change fees on main cabin and above. If you have not booked yet, leave our alert running on SIN — we ping you the second the fare slips. A Singapore-issued Visa Infinite, Mastercard World Elite or Amex Platinum bundles trip-disruption cover that softens the blow if the event reschedules.
